Zone-tailed Hawk, Fort Davis
Birds of the Davis Mountains
I first went to the Davis Mountains as part of a Victor Emanuel birding trip when I couldn't have been more than 11 or 12, so I was excited to finally get back there as an adult with a camera. I was ready to capture some familiar favorites as well as make some new lifer friends. The trip did not disappoint, with many new species and some great photographic opportunities. Many of these were taken at the Davis Mountains State Park's fantastic wildlife viewing stations, which, if you didn't feel like schlepping around in the heat of the day, you could park at and wait to see who would drop in.
